Elissa,
When did you start singing to a tree? This sounds like a pagan practice as they worship all of nature. If you are referring to singing Oh Christmas Tree - let me give you a little background. When I was a girl our family used to get together on Christmas eve and sing every Christmas song that we knew. We did that because it made all of us happy and made Christmas eve very special. when my mother was little, they would put the tree in the middle of the room and not only sing but dance around the tree. When your Mom was a kid, we also just sang every song that we knew. Your Grandpa doesn't like to sing and never knows any of the words - so he started just singing Oh Christmas Tree, same words over and over again. It is so funny. But he isn't singing to a tree. He is singing about a tree. Why do you sing to a tree?
